A fun way to search for reference images by their colour content. It selects from over 10 million images on Flickr according to the colours you select from a handy little palette.

Then of course you can link directly to any picture you see. It doesn't give you any rights to use the images you find, but if nothing else it's delightful, therapeutic toy.

These days I'm inundated with emails from photographers and their agents. I think some 'designer mailing list' has been circulated to every agent in town, because every designer I know has also recently been swamped in photospam.

In amongst all of that, my attention was drawn towards this bold site for photographer Uli Heckmann.

I like the graphic typeface which dominates the site, and the old-school 'marching ants' effect both when it loads, and when it appears as a menu across the actual portfolio pages. It manages to be charmingly, unobtrusive, even though it dominates the page, and is quite an efficient navigation tool for browsing images across the site. The images are strong enough to survive the superimposition of the menu when it is required, and are then left to fill the screen when it is not.

I Found this nice little shockwave (does anyone still use shockwave?) app some time ago whilst doing research for an interactive project. It’s part of the Getty ‘interact 10 ways’ campaign, in which companies such as Tomato, Less Rain, Sumona etc… created apps that explore the ‘power of the image’ - it’s been on the front of digg when it was launched way back.

Here’s a short blurb by Sumona:

“From its content to its visual components, a photograph is filled with information. Choose a point on an image and delve deeper into it, linking one idea to another in a never-ending chain.”

Reminds me of those fantastic Chuck Close paintings.

An endless loop of simple, beautiful interaction.
