A fun little bit of flash which helps you to discover new music. Simply enter the name of an artist you like and it'll give you a 'map' of similar artists.
I don't know how rigourous the underlying data is and the design is a bit bargain basement. But its got something which makes it really rather fun to use.
It is certainly a much richer version of the 'Other customer's bought...' that a lot of online shops offer. It links directly through to Amazon, although the basic interface undermines the process and I doubt i'd click straight through and buy.

Am I not more eclectic than that?
I'm still not sure how much I value being told by a piece of software that I'll really like Guns & Roses because I once bought a Led Zeppelin album.
From past experience I still think I'd want to hear something somewhat different, not just more of the same or similar. And that's what friends are for.

tuneglue does something similar
Tuneglue attempts to do a similar thing using data supplied by the listening patterns of LastFM social networking platform subscribers, with record release information supplied by Amazon.
It was developed by EMI and is visibly skewed towards hilighting EMI acts.
The tuneglue version of this music comparison map arguably looks neater than liveplasma (I've added an image above for reference), but my jury is still out as to which is most 'accurate' and whether either of them are actually useful.
